A few years ago I decided to score F. W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film NOSFERATU to music from RADIOHEAD’S KID A and OK COMPUTER.

I thought I would show the program only a few times. It has turned out to be one of my most requested offerings.

Part of the reason for its success is that most who score NOSFERATU score it in an obvious manner as a horror film.

The genre we call horror films did not at that time exist nor would it exist as such until the late 1950s, early 1960s.

This is not to say that films that can be called horror films did not exist. Of course they did. They were created first though as A films with horrific themes.
