Gregory Greiten was 17 years old when the priests organized the game. It was 1982 and he was on a retreat with his classmates from St. Lawrence, a Roman Catholic seminary for teenage boys training to become priests. Leaders asked each boy to rank which he would rather be: burned over 90 per cent of his body, paraplegic, or gay.

Each chose to be scorched or paralyzed. Not one uttered the word “gay.” They called the game the Game of Life.

The lesson stuck. Seven years later, he climbed up into his seminary dorm window and dangled one leg over the edge. “I really am gay,” Greiten, now a priest near Milwaukee, remembered telling himself for the first time. “It was like a death sentence.”

The main reason I identify as queer is that no one will kill me if I say I am straight.

From TRUE AND FALSE BY David Mamet: “Any system built on belief functions through the operations of guilt and hypocrisy. Such a system, whether of acting training, meditation self improvement etc., functions as a Pseudoreligjon and is predicated on the individual’s knowledge of his or her own worthlessness The system holds itself out as the alleviator, cleanser, and redeemer of the guilty individual

“Now none of us is free of self doubt, and none of us is free of guilt. We all have thoughts, feelings, episodes, and tendencies which we would rather did not exist.

“A guilt-based educational system, which is to say, most acting training, survives through the Support of adherents who were guilty before they signed up. who came to classes and failed (how could they do otherwise, as the training was nonsense), and were then informed that their feelings of shame–which they brought in with them—were due to their failure in class, and could be alleviated if and only if the student worked harder, “believed” more.

Tain’t gonna happen, McGee.

No, it isn’t.

Yesterday I watched a film titled SOUTHERN BAPTIST SISSIES , .

I found it riveting.

At the root of our agony as a species is the desire to not be alone, to belong, to find meaning in our lives and in our universe.

Strength comes only when we forego the path of fellowship.

This is the truth at the core of THE BIBLE which just about everyone misses.

Nor is THE BIBLE the only work in which we find this truth unveiled.

We are told in THE BIBLE the path of life is strait and narrow. From my experience most who hear that hear “straight and narrow.”

Well, a strait is never straight.

A strait is a narrow pathway which twists and turns. It is so narrow only one person at a time can walk it. A strait path can only be walked with great difficulty. A strait paths calls for we who walk it to be alert every moment, every second. It is truly said by Jesus, “The path of life is strait and narrow and few there be that find it.”

At the end of SOUTHERN BAPTIST SISSIES a character who has killed himself returns to tell his homosexual friend that God does indeed love us.

The problem, as those of us know who have experienced the sudden suicide of a friend and/or a family member (which I have experienced far to often) is that they don’t come back to tell us God loves us.

Pope Boniface VIII is generally regarded as one of the worst Popes in the history of the Roman Catholic Church. Here are a few of his quotes:

The Christian religion is a human invention like the faith of the Jews and the Arabs.

The dead will rise just as little as my horse which died yesterday.

Mary, when she bore Christ, was just as little a virgin as my own mother when she gave birth to me.

Sex and the satisfaction of natural drives is as little a sin as handwashing.

Paradise and hell only exist on earth; the healthy, rich and happy people live in the earthly paradise, the poor and the sick are in the earthly hell.

The world will exist forever, only we do not.

Any religion and especially Christianity does not only contain some truth, but also many errors. The long list of Christian untruth includes trinity, the virgin birth, the godly nature of Jesus, the eucharistic transformation of bread and wine into the body of Christ and the resurrection of the dead.

As it happens I accept the resurrection of both Jesus and, in time, the rest of us who are and who will one day be in the dust. I also accept the godly nature of Jesus (as well as my own).

I know that the concept of Mary ever virgin has led to be more sorrow than any other concept we, as a species, have dreamed up.

We would all be better off if everyone agreed with Boniface (as I do) that sex and the satisfaction of natural drives is as little a sin as handwashing.

The simple answer to homosexual men of all faiths not just Christianity is that if to belong to your faith you must lie than that which you believe in is not worth believing in.

Eleanor Roosevelt is supposed to have said, “Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.”

I say she is supposed to have said that because there are are those, naturally, who say she didn’t say it or that the idea didn’t begin with her.

I don’t give a damn who it began with because it is true.

What is also true is that the small minds are in the overwhelming majority.

If you want to make money you need the small minds to buy what you are selling so everything you sell must cater to small minds.

This is why our mass media are nothing more than the old ladies and men gossiping over those with the courage to lead more interesting lives than they do.

If you want to get elected to office you must win the votes of the multitude. To my mind those votes are not worth winning.

Read the last Judgement in The Gospel of Matthew.

You will not find one person damned to Hell for eternity over his or her choice of bed partners nor for the age of their bed partners.

“The sad story of David’s wife Bathsheba is well known (2 Samuel 11:1–17). She was originally the wife of Uriah the Hittite, a trusted soldier in David’s army. While Uriah was away at war, David saw Bathsheba bathing in her courtyard one night; she was beautiful, and David lusted after her. Even knowing she was another man’s wife, David summoned her to his palace and slept with her. When she found that she was pregnant, she informed David, and the king, rather than repent, added to his sin. David ordered that Uriah be placed on the front lines of the battlefield where he was abandoned by his fellow soldiers and killed by the enemy. Then David married Bathsheba, but their child died shortly after birth. David chronicled his sin and repentance over these evil acts in Psalm 51. David and Bathsheba had four more children (1 Chronicles 3:5). Their son Solomon ruled after his father’s death.”

The thing that just about everyone fails to understand is that the moment, the very second Bathsheba got it into her head to take a bath in public it was God acting.

God does not want a world of sinless paragons.

Jesus taught those forgiven little love little, those forgiven much love much.

Amen to that.

We have far too many small sinners and nowhere near enough great ones.

How can I say it was God put the idea into Bathsheba’s head?

Simple, it was Solomon, David’s son with Bathsheba, who inherited the throne.

One thing we know for certain is that God does not love a liar.

So, please, all you people who are lying to belong to your group, get the fuck out of it.

David’s last wife was 11 years old. By today’s standard, as our police will inform us, that makes him a monster. David was 70.

She remained a virgin. To me she is a prophesy of Mary. Conventionally, Mary is said to have been 14 when Jesus was conceived. My landlord who is Jewish (and who to his credit takes his faith seriously) said to me, “Mary was an almah.”

Not having heard the word before I looked it up. Again, we will find many interpretations but the one that makes the most sense to me is that an almah is a young woman between 11 and 12 at the moment in her life when she can first decide what happens to her.

Mary would have been 11 when Jesus was conceived. She was 11 years 9 months when she gave birth to him. Nor, contrary to what many believe, was she spared the agony of child birth.

The price of belonging is that we have to accept too much bullshit.

At the end of Mark’s Gospel we are told:

14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.

15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

The remarkable thing is that Jesus rebuked the eleven for their lack of faith and refusal to believe he had risen. That has the loud ring of truth to it.

Then we are told: “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.

Snakes are not snakes as we think them. Snakes are the children of the adversary who like him lie and foster division, hatred, murder.

I’ve been handling snakes all my life.

As for that cup of poison, I’ve drunk the thing dry too many times to count.

I have, as well, placed my hands on sick cats, dogs and people. I have watched them get well.

I don’t need to belong to the Roman Catholic Church, nor The Church of England, nor the Baptist Church nor any other church to have faith.

I speak with Siddhartha when he states in Herman Hesse’s wonderful book, “I will do away with all teachers. I will become my own teacher.”

Interestingly enough, John in his first letter, states, “You need not that any man should teach you.”

So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I love God. I love Jesus. I know both God and Jesus love me.

I don’t love liars.

However I will leave the liars to God to deal with.

God knows our world is filled with them.

Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.

Yes, they do.

An awful lot of small minded folk are going to shit bricks when the God they say they believe in tells them to go to Hell for having passed him by when he was hungry, thirsty, homeless, naked, sick and in prison.

“When did we pass you by?” they will say.

The answer is what you did to the least you did to me.

A transgender man called me in a panic. He had to move. He had no place to move to. I said, “Come here.”

A city official told me, “You are not zoned by that many people. These people have to go.”

That man was brought up a Christian.

The problem is that he isn’t one.

That’s a common problem.

Never be common.

Nobody will threaten my life if I say I am straight.

But then what kind of life can a coward have?

There is one, however, who will kill me if I lie.

That one is God.

God, however, will not need to kill me if I lie.

I will have killed myself.

It is not generally known that the word translated as “effeminate” in THE BIBLE actually means “spineless.”

I’ve known a lot of effeminate men. Believe me, effeminate men are far from spineless.

It takes a backbone to be a queer.

Jesus taught, “You shall speak the truth and it will set you free.”

Yes, it does.

Every queer man knows that.
