“This storm will pass,” people told and tell me.

Yes, one day all storms will pass but right now in this moment the storm is raging. Do we help those caught in its fury or do we close our door to them? That defines who we are.

Last Sunday I met by chance a man who is a journalist. He had just gotten out of jail. He was arrested when he should not have been. Now he found himself homeless.

He is a guest in my house.

City inspectors made it clear to me that not more than three tenants can live in my home according to City of Toronto Zoning Bylaws.

I can, however, have guests. I clarified that with them.

This is important to me because over the years a great many people who found themselves homeless have found a home with me.

Let the false Christians sue our fellows in the courts.

As Jesus said, we don’t get grapes from thistles.

These are simply being true to their nature.

No true Christian takes a believer or, for that matter, a non-believer, to court.

“But love ye your enemies, and do good and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest; for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.“–Luke 6:35

Luke 6:32-36 King James Version (KJV)

32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

First Corinthians 6:1 “When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints?

James 2:5-6 “Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court?

Proverbs 25:8-9 “Do not hastily bring into court, for what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame? Argue your case with your neighbor himself, and do not reveal another’s secret.

Matthew 10:17-18 “Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles.”

“I do believe unmerited suffering is redemptive.”–Martin Luther King, Jr.

Nothing so makes clear the poverty of Christianity than do the above verses.

Matthew 7:21-23 New King James Version (NKJV)

I Never Knew You

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

As a person who has been at the center of a campaign of hatred designed to bring him to ruin I know from experience the power of that faith which is the rock upon which we are called to build our house.

Matthew 7:24-27 King James Version (KJV)

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Let the storm rage. My house is built on rock.–Reg Hartt 2019–07–27.
