5pm Monday  October 14.

Reg Hartt’s Cineforum, 463 Bathurst, Toronto.

The success of this film and it’s predecessor THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957) launched Britain’s Hammer Films, the careers of Peter Cushing, Christoper Lee and director Terrence Fisher.

These were the first two films made in Britain that actually hit huge where it counts, at the box office.

They also show everything that is wrong with motion picture censorship. Scenes had to be re-shot to please the censors. Kids were not allowed in to see them.

Luckily, after a Herculean effort those scenes the censor demanded be redone have been restored and the cuts that were made have been undone.

What better way to celebrate Hallowe’en than to see this great film as we were meant to.

P.S. Come at 4pm and watch the documentary on the restoration.–Reg Hartt
