“The LORD says I must help you. The LAW says I can not. What do I do?”

When I was asked that question in Hollywood, California in 1970 my reply was, “That is your question.”

I fully expected the man who had asked me the question not to help me. In fact, I wanted nothing to do with him and the job I had gone to him seeking.

When he replied, “Then I guess I have to hire you” I realized that that question was not his question but our question, my question and how I chose to answer it would define the rest of my life.

Once I realized that I realized, as the man before me had realized that there is only one right answer to that question.

Those who wish to say my answer is the wrong answer are welcome to do that. Clearly my answer is not theirs.

My friend Chester Brown created the above art for a special limited edition of my book THE NIGHT THEY RAIDED ROCHDALE (COLLEGE) to help raise money to cover my current legal costs.

The choice of what to draw was Chester’s.

The work is available unsigned for a donation of $20 and signed for a minimum donation of $100.00.

A fan letter from Jane Jacobs, author of THE DEATH AND LIFE OF GREAT AMERICAN CITIES, DARK AGE AHEAD and more.

The book is self published by myself.

Copies of the book may be picked up at THE CINEFORUM, 463 Bathurst, Toronto. 416-603-6643.
