Judith Merril, the mother of modern science/speculative fiction. J. G. Ballard (author of Crash and Empire of the Sun) in 1992: “Science fiction, I suspect, is now dead, and probably died about the time that Judy closed her anthology and left to found her memorial library to the genre in Toronto. I remember my last sight of her, surrounded by her friends and all the books she loved, shouting me down whenever I tried to argue with her, the strongest woman in a genre for the most part created by timid and weak men.”

“I had wonderful teachers in the first and second grades who taught me everything I know. After that, I’m afraid, the teachers were nice, but they were dopes…I have a lack of ideology, and not because I have an animus against any particular ideology; it’s just that they don’t make sense to me…they get in the way of thinking. I don’t see what use they are…University and uniformity, as ideals, have subtly influenced how people thought about education, politics, economics, government, everything…We are misled by universities and other intellectual institutions to believe that there are separate fields of knowledge. But it’s clear there are no separate fields of knowledge. It is a seamless web.”-Jane Jacobs whose books, from her first, THE DEATH AND LIFE OF THE GREAT AMERICAN CITIES to her last, DARK AGE AHEAD, are must reading.

“Taking LSD was a profound experience, one of the most important things in my life. LSD shows you that there’s another side to the coin, and you can’t remember it when it wears off, but you know it. It reinforced my sense of what was important—creating great things instead of making money, putting things back into the stream of history and of human consciousness as much as I could.”

Aldous Huxley “The Devils Of Loudon”:

We are living in an end time. Say what you will but the evidence for that statement is

clear. .

Matthew 16:2-3New International Version (NIV)

He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a]–3&version=NIV  ).

My high school principal, in the middle of my last year (grade 13) roared at me, “You have the wrong attitude. Leave this school today and you will starve in two weeks.”

He said that in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. He’d probably said it to hundreds if not thousands of young men.

That night found me on the streets of Toronto. I came here thinking I had a friend. I arrived to find out I did not.

I certainly have not starved.

Had I not left I certainly would have starved.

Writes noted director, playwright, producer, screenwriter David Mamet in his books TRUE AND FALSE and BAMBI VS. GODZILLA, “Stay out of school.” He also writes, “This is a generation that would like to stay in school.”

Nor is Mamet alone.

“Most teachers say you should go to school to get your degree to have something to fall back on. Aside from being a huge lie, that also creates a very high level of mediocrity, because nobody who really believes that is going to take the leap of faith required to be a serious artist. Stay out of school.”–Ellis Marsalis to his sons Branford, Delfeayo and Wynton.

That leap of faith is what this post is about.

It is what life is about.

The hardest thing for us to have faith in is not God.

It is our self.

“Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initative or creation, there is one elementary truth…that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves. too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in ones’s favor all manner of incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man would have believed would have come his way.

Whatever you think you can do or believe you can do, begin it. Action has magic, grace, and power in it.”― W.H. Murray

The moment I turned and left that principal’s office I had, unknowingly, made that commitment, taken that leap of faith.

A while back AMAZON suggested, based on my reading (which is that of a Renaissance human being), Dr. Brant Pitre’s book THE CASE FOR CHRIST. After reading it I ordered more books by Dr. Pitre. I entered his name in ABEBOOKS (  ) .

What is clear from reading these books is that Dr. Pitre has not taken that leap of faith ( ).

Nonetheless, reading his works has not been a wasted effort.

“But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men, for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.” (   ).

What few in or out of academia seems to understand that the only people in the gospels Jesus calls sinners are the scribes (scholars, lawyers) and the Pharisees.

Contrary to what the Christian Right (of which it has been said they are neither Christian nor right) would have us believe Jesus does not find fault with the folk conventional Christians find fault with.

Many (most) professional religious people tell us that only Jesus could do what he did.

This is contrary to what Jesus teaches.

John 14:12-14New International Version (NIV)

12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. .

There is a saying as old as antiquity: “The nearer the church/synagogue/temple the farther from Allah, The Buddha, God.”

(     )

THE SEED OF GOD ~ Meister Eckhart:  The seed of God is in us. Given an intelligent and hardworking farmer, it will thrive and grow up into God, whose seed it is; and accordingly its fruits will be God-nature. Pear seeds grow into pear trees, nut seeds into nut trees, and God seeds into God. ).

The acorn does not ask the Oak tree, “How do I become an Oak tree?”

Neither should we ask God, “How do I become God?”

“He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

(   )

You will find, as Tennyson wrote, “More faith in honest doubt than in half the creeds.” And, adds Aldous Huxley in his superlative THE DEVILS OF LOUDON, “More doubt in honest faith than than in all your atheistic Marxist handbooks.”

Cherish your doubts.

Stay out of church.

Ian Wilson is one of the best writers on The Shroud of Turin. From his book THE EVIDENCE FOR JESUS I learned what a Galilean accent was ( : After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them too; for even your [Galilean] accent gives you away.” ). Galileans dropped their aitches. When Jesus spoke he dropped his aitches. The historical Jesus was dirt poor. There were few educated men in his time and even fewer in our time who would stop to listen to him.

Have you ever wondered what the Bible teaches about what will happen at the End of Time? Many Catholics have heard about “the Rapture,” the coming of the “Anti-christ,” and the Second Coming, but are unsure exactly what to believe about these topics. Moreover, while Protestant Christians are often well-versed in the study of the “end times,” Catholics are often unfamiliar with what the Bible actually teaches. Many Christians are unaware that the Catholic Church has very explicit teachings about the Tribulation, the Antichrist, the Second Coming, and the New Creation.

In this detailed Bible study on the end times, Dr. Pitre brings clarity and precision to the confusion that frequently surrounds the doctrine of the end times, by answering crucial questions such as:

 • What is the meaning of Jesus’ prophecies of tribulation and the coming of the Son of Man? Are we in the “end times” now?
 • Why did Jesus prophesy the destruction of the Temple, and how does it relate to the End of the World?
 • Is the Protestant belief in a secret “Rapture” a biblical teaching or a false doctrine?
 • What will the Final Judgment be like, and how will we be judged?

If you’ve ever wondered about where this world is heading and what the ultimate destiny of humanity is, then you don’t want to miss this powerful study of the truth about what the Bible and the Catholic Church teach about the last days.
