A Chinese friend thinks the real reason China ceased global navigation, burned its massive fleet and buried its maps was not out of fear of free trade but rather out of a palpable and all to real knowledge that casual and unrestrained intercourse between nations is as deadly as is casual sex.

He thinks the reason the fleet was burned was because the ships were disease infected.

Anyone aware of how long it has taken us to become aware of the need for sanitizing cleanliness knows he is not an unwarranted assumption nor is it an unrealistic one.

With global navigation came the risk of global infection.

We first saw it in the flu epidemics of the past. We saw it again dramatically with the AIDS outbreak of the 1980s.

We are seeing it today in its most dramatic and deadly manifestation yet.

Hopefully the stringent methods now being used will contain this.

Several things are clear.

The first is that this may take more than a year to get under control.

The second is that steps must be taken to make sure the risk of this happening again are made as low as possible.

I know it was not an easy decision for the authorizes in China to cease 100% from global navigation.

I know there must have been many who opposed such a drastic move because their fortunes depended upon a global economy.

The human species is a resilient species.

We are like the pests we try to exterminate. We have to think of new ways to exterminate them because the ones that survive are immune to the current systems we used to control them.

In 1968 I read for the first time the ancient Chinese Oracle THE I CHING. I was 22 when I read that the superior man learns to live with little in times of plenty thus preparing himself for times of want.

I saw at once the truth and the wisdom of that.

For the past few years I have several times been warned that I was about to be blindsided. If we were able to see clearly what threatens us we would not be blindsided. What I have learned from having been blindsided is that if I had seen clearly and paid attention to the signs of the times I would not have been blindsided.

The other Hexagram I have often received is EXHAUSTION.

It says what I am saying here.

For us as a species to continue we must burn the past to cleanse our world for the future.

Not Canada alone but every nation of earth is now facing this hard truth.

We are going to exhaust ourselves completely to contain this pandemic.

Don’t worry.

Out of the ashes of the world we lived the Phoenix of a new and better world will soar.

Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

King James Version (KJV)We are to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome and give shelter to the homeless, clothe the naked, visit those sick and in prison and to welcome the stranger.

If we do that we are told the plague will not come near us though thousands fall around us.

I know only one way to knows if this is true.

That one way is to live it.

Tomorrow belongs to us.–Reg Hartt
