Over 1100 people contributed to the 3DFA fundraiser to restore this film.

Why would so many people contribute to restore a picture reportedly made for around $16,000.00 which is listed in THE GOLDEN TURKEY AWARDS as one of the fifty worst films of all time:: https://www.amazon.com/Golden-Turkey-Awards-Achievements-Hollywood/dp/039950463X ?

Bear in mind that among the pictures listed in this book are Sergei Eisenstien’s IVAN THE TERRIBLE Parts1 & 2 (1944, 1958): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_the_Terrible_(1944_film)  .

Many, myself among them, see these as great films. They are made even greater when we know the conditions under which they were made.

Oscar Hammerstein III said, “Being knowing and blase is really the most unsophisticated thing a person can be. The most sophisticated thing one person can say to another is, ‘I know nothing about that, Please tell me.'”

We run into that pseudo sophistication constantly.

The goal of the 3DFA is to restore and preserve as much of our 3D motion picture heritage as possible. They go beyond the call of duty. They make $1 do the work of $20.00.

I wish Warner Archive (holder of the largest library of classic 3D motion pictures) and Sony (holder of the Columbia archive) would get the stick out of their arses.

So many people chipped in to save this film because (a) it is a fun movie and (b) seen in 3D it was one of the very best 3D films of the period. The 3D photography is so good that the 3D version is a completely different experience from the flat 2D version.

From what I understand the film was made to demonstrate the 3D camera used to film it.

It was number 7 of the over fifty 3D motion pictures made between 1952 and 1955.

I have had a partial 3D version of ROBOT MONSTER for years. When the Blu-ray arrived yesterday I watched the film on the BIG 150 inch screen here with the commentary track.

I learned that a sign that all of this is meant to be a dream is shown by a switch from long pants to short pants.

I am sure that little detail went over the heads of most who have seen the film.

There are other reviewers who can and will go into deeper detail than I intend to.

Let’s just say that this latest offering from the 3DFA is a heckuva lot of fun.

It has been their practice for a long time now to offer an anaglyph (red and blue glasses) 3D version of the projects so that people who don’t have digital 3D systems can see the film in 3D.

I suggest, if possible, you track down a copy of the anaglyph 3D vhs version of this title for the sake of comparison.

The thing is, there is not any comparison.

This restoration is so far above and beyond the VHS version the distance can’t be measured.

Included with this is over two hours of bonus features including Bela Lugosi appearing on a TV show called YOU ASKED FOR IT in which he mentions a projected 3D project that never came to pass.

Hollywood has a long history of not treating its past with the respect it deserves.

That is not true of THE 3DFA. They have respect in spades.

Among the bonus items is a 3D soft porn film that uses bubbles.

Why?

For the answer to that watch ROBOT MONSTER.

This picture is today playing to sold out crowds.

No turkey has ever been better presented to a hungry audience.

ROBOT MONSTER 3D is a satisfying experience.

Note: If you are in the Toronto area and would like to see this get in touch.
