“He who can carry the burden of the lies of men’s tongues shall save the state.”–Lao Tzu, TAO TE CHING.
Moving Freeland to handle Trump and getting Carney into Finance were smart moves. Perhaps Freeland was blinded by personal ambition. Trudeau is much sharper than he’s being given credit for. Trump joked about Canada being the 51st state. It seems he is now serious. If so he is to Canada what Putin is to The Ukraine. It has been a rough week. The Liberals were written off when Trudeau raised them from the dead. The Liberals writing him off are a discredit to their party and their leader.
“But the media’s attempt to turn this saga into a story of courage and redemption is a little far-fetched. Freeland is being portrayed as a fearless martyr. Why? For resigning after she was asked to move from the finance portfolio to the always front-burner file — now more front-burning than ever — of dealing with Washington?
“The media’s portrayal of this as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stabbing her in the back is puzzling. Since when is it backstabbing for a prime minister to shuffle his cabinet, to move his finance minister to another portfolio after four years in the job, especially after months of dismal polls?
“Freeland presumably would have retained the title of Deputy Prime Minister, which is usually not a sign of low status.
One can see why she wouldn’t want the job of dealing with Donald Trump. It would be an impossible task trying to protect Canada from an unhinged felon. Nobody would want that job. But it’s not an insult to be offered it.”–Linda McQuaig.
