In 1980 I invited Bernard B. Brown to Toronto for three days. Mr. Brown’s career began at 16 when he played first violin in the orchestra which accompanied THE BIRTH OF A NATION (as The Clansman) during its premiere run at Clune’s Auditorium in 1915. He served as the Director of sound on THE JAZZ SINGER (1927). He was head of sound first at Warner Brothers and then at Universal On retiring he taught film and film sound at UCLA. He received eleven Academy Award nominations and two Oscar for his work with film and film sound.
When asked what film school I went to I reply, “Mine.” I learned from the masters. THE BIRTH OF A NATION premiered at Legit Theatre prices. This presentation is at Legit Theatre prices.
David Wark Griffith is the man who invented the art and the industry of the motion picture. That birth happened in a lightning flash with this picture.
