In 1990 I bought the inside back cover of this guide to let the world know Grim Natwick would celebrate his 100th birthday that year. A huge party was thrown. I was there. Tom Sito said, “Reg Hartt? You’re responsible for this!” Grim Natwick said, “You’ve given me more than anyone else in my life.” I loved the man. He was an inspiration to many.

As a result of this notice I posted in THE ANIMATION INDUSTRY DIRECTORY Grim Natwick got an avalanche of love from around the world and a star named after him. I was flat broke when I bought it but it was something I had to do.

The world of animation owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Reg Hartt for sharing this incredible video with us: https://animationresources.org/category/grim-natwick/page/2/

This issue of FILM COMMENT changed completely my thinking on Hollywood Cartoons. In it’s pages I discovered the names Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, Shamus Culhane, Friz Freleng, Grim Natwick, Chuck Jones and more. Little did I know that in a few years I would bring some of them to Toronto.

This wonderful dancing Betty Boop was drawn by her creator Grim Natwick when he was 90. It was a gift from Grim to Reg Hartt. Grim celebrated his 90th Birthday in Toronto. Every year after that Reg Hartt alerted the world to his birthday. Hartt called it, “Countdown to 100.” When Grim did turn 100 everyone who mattered was there (including me). Grim was one of the most inspiring people I ever met. I have to raise $20,000.00 to cover legal expenses. A minimum donation of $10,000.00 will get this painting a new home. I turned 73 this year. Time to start thinking of getting a new home for these treasures.  Contact reghartt@gmail.com. http://www.michaelspornanimation.com/splog/?p=572
