The first time I saw Erich Von Stroheim’s FOOLISH WIVES (1922) it was an 8mm print projected on my bedroom wall around 1964. I had ordered it from John Griggs. We have come a long way from that. Everything about this presentation is superb.

The bane of Erich Von Stroheim’s film making career was 20 year old Irving Thalberg who was put in charge of production at Universal by studio head Carl Laemmle.

Thalberg was neither old enough nor smart enough to be trusted with such power.

He was fine at creating movies for children but when it came to grown-ups he lacked completely the maturity to understand what he was not part of.

The producers of this Blu-ray have done a great service to the posterity of the art of the motion picture.–Reg Hartt
