In a world filled with people who want to play it safe no one is more vital than s/he who is willing to take a risk. Arch Oboler took that risk. Taking it he ushered in a brief bloom of films which are, each and every one of them, beautiful to watch. Thanks to the work of Robert Furmanek and THE 3D FILM ARCHIVE many of those long neglected motion pictures have been dusted off, cleaned up, spruced up are are ready to date. At last, this month, the film that started that burst of activity gets its due. I have made a life out of not playing it safe. Those who play it safe never have a life. The news that Oboler’s DOMO ARIGATO is getting a 3D Blu-ray restoration and release makes it clear that only THE 3D FILM ARCHIVE loves this medium enough to go the distance. BWANA DEVIL is as important in the canon of motion pictures as are THE BIRTH OF A NATION, THE JAZZ SINGER and BECKY SHARP. Excelsior. Now bring us HONDO as soon as it can be done.
